The Texan duke

Ranney, Karen (author.).

Summary: As the ward to the late Duke of Lothian, Elsbeth Carew resides at the ancestral estate of Bealadair. Fiercely attached to the manor, she loves it more than anyone else. When Connor McCraight--the new Duke of Lothian--arrives, Elsbeth does not quite know what to make of the American who has inherited the title but has never even set foot on Scottish soil. The tall, ruggedly handsome Texan sweeps through Bealadair with an air of authority Elsbeth has never encountered. Connor has no intention of making Scotland his home and hopes to sell the estate as soon as possible. But his plan is jeopardized when he meets Elsbeth. A sweet, gray-eyed beauty, she tempts him in ways no other woman has. As word spreads of Connor's intention to sell Bealadair, his life is threatened--and the only woman who can save him may be the one he has hopelessly lost his heart to.

The third installment in Ranney's Duke series, following The English Duke (2017), features Connor McCraight as he reluctantly travels to Scotland from Texas, where he owns a ranch with 2 million acres. Elspeth Carew was a ward of the former Duke of Lothian, and she stays on to help the family she has lived with since she was orphaned at eight years old. She runs the vast ancient estate, Bealadair, doing everything from organizing the staff to checking the herds of Highland cattle. Connor is put off by everyone calling him Your Grace, and by his shallow new cousins. His shock at discovering a family secret that reveals just how closely related he is to this Scottish branch on the family tree is softened only by the growing friendship with Elspeth. The practicalities of running the clan and the unique culture clash between Texas and Scotland add a vivid setting for a romance between two leads with terrific chemistry. Add an underlying suspense story, and Ranney keeps readers reading. Fans of Grace Burrowes' Scotland series will also enjoy this fun, absorbing romance. Copyright 2017 Booklist Reviews.
