The McAvoy sisters book of secrets : a novel / Molly Fader.
"It's been seventeen years since the tragic summer the McAvoy sisters fell apart. Lindy, the wild one, left home, carved out a new life in the city and never looked back. Delia, the sister who stayed, became a mother herself, raising her daughters and running the family shop in their small Ohio hometown on the shores of Lake Erie. But now, with their mother's ailing health and a rebellious teenager to rein in, Delia has no choice but to welcome Lindy home. As the two sisters try to put their family back in order, they finally have the chance to reclaim what's been lost over the years: for Delia, professional dreams and a happy marriage, and for Lindy, a sense of home and an old flame--and best of all, each other. But when one turbulent night leads to a shocking revelation, the women must face the past they've avoided for a decade. And there's nothing like an old secret to bring the McAvoy women back together and stronger than ever. With warm affection and wry wit, Molly Fader's The McAvoy Sisters Book of Secrets is about the ties that bind family and the power of secrets to hold us back or set us free"-- Publisher's website.

*Starred Review* Sisters Delia and Lindy McAvoy were very close until they were torn apart by tragedy. While attempting to save their father from a vicious storm, the McAvoys found themselves at the mercy of the Fulbright family, who were less than kind. After their father's death, the family pushed their grief and hurt down and worked hard running their shop, until one fateful night when Delia is raped and impregnated by the Fulbright boy. Delia pushes her feelings about the rape asideâand with them, Lindy as well. Seventeen years later, Lindy returns home after learning from a past flame that her mother is ill. With Lindy's arrival, Delia is forced to deal with the unresolved issues about that night and reflect on the life she is living. One more treacherous night puts everyone's lives at risk but succeeds in uniting the McAvoy women and allowing Delia to face the truth and finally become the woman she was meant to be. Fans of Jennifer Weiner will be pleased to have a new author to discover. Copyright 2019 Booklist Reviews.
