Martha Heydrich, a stay-at-home wife in a gated community, is rumored to be having an affair with a local teenager, Michael Platte. One morning, Martha vanishes, and that night Arthur comes home to find the pool house ablaze. When the fire is extinguished, two bodies are found--one is Michael Platte, and the other is burned beyond recognition. The police assume the unidentified body is Martha and arrest Arthur for murder. But when the DNA results prove that the body is that of an unknown man, the police turn to ex-FBI agent Gregor Demarkian for help.
